Accessibility & DDA

What is it all about?

Accessibility is most commonly thought to apply to physically disabled people. However, this is no longer true. The Disability Discrimination Act and it's Associated Code of Practice now recommends that "reasonable efforts" must be made to ensure that as many visitors as possible are able to access your website.

This includes those with colour deficient sight, assistive technologies such as text to speech readers and vice versa, to name but a few.

What can we do for you?

We can take a look at your website and advise you of the visitors that you may be excluding from your website, we can also advise you of those items that might be easily corrected, and of those that may cause a major issue to those with disabilities.

We can advise and if required, assist with your chosen upgrade, or amendment path, and the most cost-effective methods of implementing the changes.

Is it all bad?

Most certainly not. There are some real positives to accessibility. We can talk for hours about our favourite subject, however rather than bore you we have provided a simple list below of some of the positives.

Benefits include:

  • Your web site will load faster;
  • Your web site will be accessible to a larger audience;
  • Your users will be more able to customise your web site appearance;
  • Your web site will provide print-friendly pages;
  • Be easier to maintain, less code takes up less space;
  • Semantically designed code is not only user friendly but also search engine friendly;
  • Design and content can be re-styled easily, without changing the code throughout the site;
