On this page we will provide details on how to do this with the most frequently used browsers; we do hope you will find this information useful.


Firefox

For versions 1.5 or higher.

To set a minimum font size for your current session only, you can either:

  • View (or ALT and V),
  • Text Size,
  • Select the font size using the mouse wheel or arrow keys,

or,

  • CTRL and + to increase the size, CTRL and - to decrease the size, CTRL and 0 [zero] to return to the default size

or,

  • CTRL and turn the mouse wheel up or down.

To set a default minimum font size for all and every session:

  • Tools (or ALT and T)
  • Options (or O)
  • Content (or use the arrow keys) - in earlier versions, General
  • Under Fonts & Colours, go to Advanced (or ALT and D),
  • Minimum Font Size (or ALT and O),
  • Select the size you require.

In earlier versions, activate Always use my: fonts.

Internet Explorer

To set a default minimum font size for all and every session:

  • Tools (or ALT and O)
  • Internet Options (or O)
  • Accessibility button at the bottom of the page (or ALT and E)
  • Tick Ignore font sizes specified on webpages (or ALT and Z)
  • Return to the main menu
  • Page (or ALT and P)
  • Text Size (or X)
  • Select the font size

in Internet Explorer 5 or 6:

  • View (or ALT and V)
  • Text Size (or X)
  • Select the font size

Version 7 also introduced a zoom feature; to use this CTRL and + to increase the zoom, CTRL and - to decrease the zoom.

Opera

For Opera, Version 8 & 9.

To use the zoom feature:

  • + or - (some versions require SHIFT and + or SHIFT and -)

or,

  • View (or ALT and V)
  • Z for zoom options
  • Use the up and down arrow keys

or, to set a default zoom size for all and every session:

  • Tools
  • Preferences (or CTRL and F12)
  • Web Pages (or CTRL and Tab repeatedly)
  • Page Zoom
  • Select the zoom size

Safari

For Mac

To set a minimum font size for your current session only you can either:

  • View
  • Near the bottom of the list, select Make Text Bigger or Make Text Smaller.

or,

  • View
  • APPLE and + to increase the size, APPLE and - to decrease the size, APPLE and 0 [zero] to return to the default size.

To set a default minimum font size for all and every session:

  • Safari
  • Preferences (or APPLE and comma)
  • Appearance (or CTRL and F5, then right arrow)
  • Next to Standard Font, select Select
  • Under Sizes select a size (or CTRL and F6, then CTRL and F7, then TAB, then TAB, then type the font size)

Netscape

To set a minimum font size for your current session only (version 7 and above only):

  • View (or ALT and V)
  • Text Zoom (or Z)
  • Select the font size (or use the up and down keys)

To set a default minimum font size for all and every session:

  • Edit (or ALT and E)
  • Preferences (or E)
  • Appearance
  • Fonts
  • Go to Minimum Font Size near the bottom of the page
  • Select the font size
  • Remove tick from Allow documents to use other fonts.
